Whether you're about
to embark on your first, or fifth, Sionnach Adventure you can never
be 'Prepared' enough for the mountains. This page will guide you on
to how to prepare yourself and your patrol.
Dear Scout/Patrol
Welcome to an adventure you'll remember! We outline what's expected
of you, what you'll need to know, and how prepared you've really got
to be!
Program
Cycle
A three week program build-up to a Sionnach Adventure for your troop
meetings. This can be run by the Patrol Leader or Scout Leader and is
particulary relevant if the Sionnach Adventure is new to your troop.
Route
Card
Every time you go hillwalking it is good practice to write up a route
card to avoid any confusion of your bearing, location, time, distance
or height of each leg while you are out on the hill. Always leave a
routecard and time you'll be back with somebody at home.
Mountain
Hazards
No matter what the weather's like when you set out it can quickly change
to the opposite sending you into clouds of mist, rain or strong winds.
Before you leave, ensure that both leader and scouts are aware of possible
dangers, hazards and injuries that could occur while on the hill. This
list should help...
Gear
List
Download and print off this gear list for yourself and your patrol as
a guide to what to bring on the hills on a Sionnach. This is the minimum
amount of equipment you are expected to have while participating in
a Sionnach Adventure.
